Welcome back to The Dog Pawlour blog! In part one of our short blog series, we looked at some of the top reasons to bring your dog into see us for dog grooming at either one of our locations in Fort Collins or Greeley. While we understand that some dog parents enjoy giving their furry family member a bath at home, there are so many great benefits to bringing them to see our groomers. For one, our expert groomers have the proper training, certifications, skill, and experience for getting pups clean, soft, and styled. Here are the reasons we went over in part one of our series:
- Keeps their coat soft and shiny.
- Grooming nourished their skin.
- They need a haircut.
- They’re ready for a bath.
- To get your puppy used to grooming at an early age.
- They need a thorough brushing.
- They’re due for a nail trimming.
Here are a few more reasons to bring your puppy pal in for professional grooming:
Regular Ear Cleanings
Dogs are susceptible to ear infections caused by a buildup of yeast, or the presence of bacteria and parasites. A dog’s ear canals are much more complicated than that of a human’s; they are curvy and form the shape of an “L” which makes it challenging to clean them without the proper tools and training. Pet MD notes that such ear infections like otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear) and otitis interna (inflammation of the inner ear) are both common conditions caused by bacterial infections. These conditions can cause a lot of pain when performing movements, especially when your dog opens their mouth and shakes their head. While it is good to clean their ears regularly at home by gently wiping them with a warm, soapy cloth, it can be dangerous when water goes directly into their ear canal. This can cause ear infections, too, which is why it’s better to rely on the skill of a trained groomer who has the proper cleaning materials and tools to clean their ears in a safe, effective, and comfortable manner.
Maintain Their Health and Wellness
Regular grooming appointments can maintain and improve your pup’s overall health and wellness. Your dog’s coat can hide many issues, including skin irritations and rashes, skin growths, dry, flaky skin, injuries, and even patches of hair loss. Your dog’s coat can also house common pests like fleas and ticks, which not only pose health risks for them, but also for you, your family, and your friends. When you brush them at home, it’s always a good idea to inspect their skin and coat for any unusual signs, but our groomers are trained to detect potential health problems when we’re grooming them. When we’re grooming your dog, our goal isn’t to just get them looking pretty, but also to ensure they are in good health. If we notice anything that is cause for concern, we can recommend next steps and can even recommend a great local vet if you don’t already have one.
Reduce Shedding
The nice thing about bringing your dog in to see us is that we use excellent grooming tools and methods to give your dog a thorough brushing to minimize shedding. This helps reduce the number of loose hairs that can build up on the floors and furniture in your home. It also helps keep hair from attaching to your clothing, which is a huge struggle for just about every dog owner. Minimizing the amount of hair and dander in your home can help dog owners who have allergies. While your dog has a natural ability to shed, especially during the warmer months here in Northern Colorado, our tools and brushes can get to those deeper hairs which are closer to the skin, which helps long-haired dogs like golden retrievers get rid of that heavy, warm hair quicker. This will help them stay cooler and more comfortable in the summers.
Try a New Style
Maybe you’ve been thinking about giving your pup a new look. For instance, Pomeranians are naturally fluffy and adorable, but sometimes, pet parents like to give them a fun new look that resembles a tiny lion. Or maybe your little fluffkin has a ragged-looking coat and could use a cut that enhances their natural beauty and improves the texture of their coat. There are many grooming styles to choose from for all breeds, so bringing your dog in to update their style can really turn some heads when you’re out on a walk, making your little cutie the talk of the neighborhood.
Convenience
Probably one of the best reasons to have your dog groomed by professionals is for the simple convenience of it. Let’s be honest, trying to wash your dog in the bathtub or shower is a real struggle. Not only is it hard to keep them from slipping around, which could lead to an injury to them and you, you end up getting drenched and covered in dog hair. And then you still have to clean the dog hair from your bathtub when you’re done washing them. Dog hair can really plug up the pipes in your bathroom plumbing, which could cause a whole lot of issues. Then, you have to dry them and try to get them to hold still while you give them a trim. The bottom line is, washing your dog at home might seem convenient at first, but four to five hours later, you might be rethinking it. Dog groomers, on the other hand, have access to the best tools, state-of-the-art equipment, and quality all-natural products for grooming your pup. Not to mention that as groomers, we do it day in and day out. You dog will be much more comfortable in our bathtubs made specifically with dogs in mind, and will be attached to safety harnesses the entire time to ensure their safety and wellbeing. You can drop them off for a spa day with us, go run errands, and come back to a fresh, clean pup, without having to set aside several hours out of your day.
Even More Reasons to Snuggle Them
As if you need more reasons to pet and cuddle your sweet fluffkin, getting your dog brushed, bathed, and trimmed makes them extra clean, soft, and snuggly. Extra puppy snuggles after they’ve been cleaned will only enhance the bond between you and your dog, so treat them to a day at the puppy spa, even if it’s partly for selfish reasons. There’s nothing like petting and hugging your dog after they’ve been cleaned, brushed, and are smelling so fresh and so clean!
Because Your Love Them
You love your dog and care about their health, comfort, and wellbeing. For this reason alone, you’ll want to maintain regular visits to the groomers to keep their coat, skin, ears, paws, and everything in between, shiny, clean, and healthy. Your pup will feel good with a nice clean coat and maintaining their grooming can improve their overall wellness and quality of life.
